Nicholas has undertaken two projects for us and we can’t fault the service that he has given. His attention to detail, and no nonsense approach when project managing, was first class and it saved us a lot of stress.

When we found Nicholas it was so easy for us to rely on his expert supervision of the restoration of the house, and we were completely happy with his final design, appropriate materials and choice of craftsmen.

It is now 12 years since the work was finished and we have always been absolutely delighted with our beautiful house and its setting. We have no hesitation in recommending Nicholas.

Nicholas' skilful design for the conversion of this Grade 2 listed barn has resulted in a building that has retained its character whilst providing a modern and very comfortable interior. We have really enjoyed living here from Day 1, which was nearly 6 years ago, and have been delighted by the very positive reactions of friends and relations when they come through the front door.

Since we were living in London at the time (about 200 miles off-site) and were ‘time-starved’ we agreed that Nicholas would be responsible for the entire specification/design, tendering, project management and invoice review/acceptance process – and he performed all this highly professionally. During the build he kept us very well informed (including a regular supply of photographs), reducing greatly our need to travel to the site.

There is no doubt that his robust attitude to the contractors saved us a great deal of potential hassle and produced a superior result. He also provided good advice as to where it was sensible to spend a little more/less to get the best overall result. His fees were not at all unreasonable for the quantity and quality of work undertaken, and were anyway to a significant extent offset by savings achieved in his process of challenging some of the more creative/optimistic contractor invoices! We would certainly use Nicholas again and would recommend his services wholeheartedly.

The Peren was our first foray into property development, in this case the conversion of a 19th century hay barn into a luxury two bedroomed holiday cottage. Being novices we relied heavily on Nicholas for both his designs and guidance throughout the process.  The result is a conversion which was sensitive the building’s integrity and beautiful.  I am also pleased to say that it has been a huge success commercially for us and has received a significant amount of press coverage in the process.  We have recommended Nicholas to others wishing to achieve something similar and would, without hesitation, use him again should we decide to embark on another venture of this nature.

We were attracted to our property, a 17C Grade II listed former farmhouse because it had had very little done to it in the way of updating, such that many original features were still in evidence.  At the same time however, it was externally a fairly ugly building.  It had been rendered on the outside, had rotting modern windows and a concrete tiled roof.   We wanted to extend as well as renovate it, whilst retaining the original character of the building.  We had seen plenty of houses which we felt had been over modernised.

Nicholas had the same vision and with his experience of listed buildings he obtained the necessary consents, not only to complete the extension and renovation but also to obtain a grant.  He supervised the project throughout.  In an S4C TV programme the presenter referred to the extension and expressed the wish that all those who renovated buildings of this type did so to that standard.  The result was even more than we had hoped for and many people comment on what a lovely house it is.  Nicholas was always up front about when he could complete work and never gave a timescale to which he could not adhere.
