Dolgellau Merionethshire

This house was formerly a small farmhouse set high in a remote mountainous area. It was in a poor state when bought, with structural problems, no services and an asbestos roof.

The house was very carefully restored and services were installed. It was roofed with new natural stone sourced from a re-opened field quarry, and this was thought to be the first new stone roof in the area for over 100 years. The quality of the walling stonework is exceptional for such a relatively modest building, and luckily original fireplaces and surrounds remained, complete with a Victorian cast iron range and a pretty basket grate. The rear outshot was largely rebuilt to accommodate a modern kitchen/dining room. It has five roof lights and new oak trusses, and the ceiling follows the rafters to give both height and light.
